About CASA Mississippi

CASA: A voice for abused and neglected children in court.

Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another. They have no family to call their own. They are more likely than other children to face homelessness, unemployment and even prison as adults.

Ever wondered what happens to a child who goes to foster care? How long do they stay there? Do they see their family often? Are they separated from their siblings? Scared? That's where a Court Appointed Special Advocate or CASA comes in. These caring volunteers are appointed by a judge to advocate for an abused or neglected child. They make sure the child's needs are heard. CASA volunteers connect with the child often and make recommendations to the judge about what is best for the child with the ultimate goal of ensuring that each one of these kids can live in a safe, permanent and nurturing home where they can thrive. CASA volunteers don't have to be social workers or lawyers. All that's needed is a desire to help a child who desperately needs your voice. We'll take care of the training and professional support.

Court Appointed Special Advocates are trained, community volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children who have been abused and neglected. Every year, more than 22,000 cases of child abuse and neglect are reported. The child welfare system in our state is overburdened and despite Mississippi's attempts to help, these kids are re-victimized as they often languish in foster care or institutional placement for far too long. CASA Mississippi believes that every child who needs a CASA deserves one. We want CASA programs in every county in the state and we need your help.

CASA Mississippi is the state organization that supports and develops local CASA programs throughout the state. Our services to these CASA programs include technical assistance and training, resource development and fundraising assistance, volunteer recruitment and retention, and public awareness activities to promote CASA services and needs. Becoming a CASA is one of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities available. You have the opportunity to make a direct impact on a child's life and perhaps the lives of generations to come. You can also stand up for abused and neglected children in Mississippi by making a donation. You will support local programs and other CASA volunteers in their efforts to help Mississippi's youngest victims. All donations are welcome and help us to provide more service and to support more CASA programs and volunteers across the state.
